Student Life


The CONNECTIONS program is committed to the academic and personal success of High School, Inc. students. Students are paired with a mentor/tutor for a yearlong relationship. You will be required to meet with you tutor/mentor at least twice a month for one-on-one meetings. The CONNECTIONS program has a focus on nurturing, initiative and achievement in students.


Future Business Leaders of America

FBLA is a national student organization that helps prepare students for careers in business and business-related fields.  Join over 200,000 other high school FBLA members nationally and become involved in FBLA activities that include:  community service with March of Dimes and CT Children’s Hospital, fundraising to open a Credit Union savings account for you, and high school exchanges through the Connecticut Youth Forum.  In addition, students in FBLA will attend leadership conferences statewide and nationally.


Leadership and Professional Development

Leadership and Professional Development is a training seminar to prepare High School, Inc. students for their summer internship experience. Students must complete each session in order to be eligible. Topics such as Resume Development, Mock Interviewing, Dressing for Success will be covered. Workshop presenters should be knowledgeable about relevant topics and be able to deliver interactive and activity-based lessons.


Educational Excursions

Educational Excursions has provided unique hands-on educational programs for High School, Inc. since inception. The best travel experiences engage body, mind, and spirit. At High School, Inc, we think that travel and learning go hand in hand. In the past excursions have traveled to Travelers Claim University, Montreal Canada, Boston University, New York City and Historically Black Colleges and Universities.


Summer Bridge

High School, Inc. Summer Bridge is a two-week preparation for the incoming freshmen students attending High School, Inc. It has been designed especially for students to learn more about High School, Inc., learn study skills and be exposed to current students and professionals in the Insurance and Finance Industry. The goal of the High School, Inc. Summer Bridge is to help students successfully transition from middle school to high school.


Executive Luncheon Series

The Executive Luncheon Series is a program that is designed to bring students and senior executives together in a formal setting. The lunches are designed so that students can learn from industry leaders in insurance and finance and executives can learn about what is going on at one of the nation’s top public schools.


Job Shadowing

Students at High School, Inc. are expected to obtain up to six hours of job shadow experience in their freshman and sophomore years. To ensure that the experience is relevant for students, the job shadow will be tied to core business courses. The job shadow experience should provide a real-world example of how these principles are utilized in the workplace and integrated into positions in the insurance and financial services industry.


Mock Interviewing

The Mock Interview program gives students the opportunity to practice interviewing and sharpen their skills. Each interview is about 25 minutes, and each student receives a feedback form on his or her performance.
